In 2016, in France, sales of Heavy Excavators (Crawler excavators >12tons and Wheel Excavators >11 tons) grew by +22%. This year, over the first 8 months, sales are still on the rise with a rate of +27%.
Between 2009 and 2017, the French Earth Moving market expanded with an average annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9%. But, all segments didn’t change at the same pace. Thus, the post-crisis market shares have changed.
France is the second largest market in Europe for wheel loaders after Germany. This is a relatively stable market, between 2,000 and 2,500 units sold each year. However, this apparent stability conceals significant changes according to the segments.
Just under 14,200 excavators were sold in France last year, up 35% on the previous year. Of these, 1,400 wheeled machines have been sold. Therefore, one in ten excavators sold in France is a wheel excavator.
The French excavator market is performing well. With 5300 units sold, the first quarter of 2017 is the best first quarter ever recorded. The record achieved in the first quarter of 2008 (5100 units) is now surpassed !
