The French MEWP market at the highest level

1/2/2019

The old record reached in 2007 is now being pulverized. In 2018, the French Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) market set a new record. With 9,500 MEWPs sold, the French market grew by 39% in 2018 in units. That's almost 1,900 more machines than in 2017!

The market exceeded expectations and steady growth driven mainly by a resurgent construction industry from 2016 and improved economic outlook. The French MEWP fleet grew strongly. The renewal of the fleet has been very strong also. These two phenomena combined explain this very good performance.

The renters have been very active. They are also the main players in the market with 70% of the total market.

In detail, scissor lifts have increased by 58% compared to 2017. Vertical masts work platforms and articulated boom lifts are up 30%. Lastly, sales of telescopic boom lifts rose by 78%.

While two thirds of MEWP sold in 2018 were electric machines, up 33%, internal combustion MEWP still increased sharply, posting an increase of 54%.

The market is expected to stabilize this year.
